To be a therapist ?

We, me .. Birmingham holistic have been up and running for 15 years and myself as a therapist twice as many years as that , where did that go?

Seems like yesterday , that I was at college studying all the holistic therapies I could to help myself recover from illness.

Little did I know then , the path that would unfold over the next few decades to where I am today and in truth, I never really achieved what I intended with Birmingham Holistic Health Centre, I had this vision, that it would be a sanctuary for anyone who needed a space to reflect, to get away from the maddening crown ,working with a team of therapist who all thought similar to me.

An optimist in so many ways, but that never really materialized as the therapist I met, didn't all think like me, sounds obvious now I know, why would they ?

I'm not saying that was good or bad, just that I never saw that coming.

I never took into consideration there agenda's and hopes and dreams were not aligned to mine, was I naive , I guess so, yet , I've never lost parts of that initial goal and I know that we have helped hundreds , possibly thousands of people over the years , but the vision I had, seemed to have eased into the background and the need to survive as a business and my role as manager , business man, marketing manager , organizer of accounts , room hire ect , all the aspects that make a business work took over from the love of "doing the work" became the leading factor.

It's tough to find the balance and in doing so, dreams go on hold and before you know it, seems to part of a previous chapter in ones life.

I still love people, I love to get in the mud and find a way out ,it's what I'm good at and I've developed a unique skill set along with experience that is, perhaps, the most value asset I hold within me, and the one I give abundantly of to those I continue to work with.

I have seen many therapist come and go , few have the tenacity required , the passion for creating change in themselves and others ,unfortunately, I have seen some good ones go and I think , "just hang in there , it'll come , not overnight , but overtime" , but patience was not built into there curriculum and neither was the vision, but I guess, we all have a path.

The path of life , sometimes it's illuminated and sometimes it's dark and it's one we all walk ,sometime, with company, or quite often alone. That's where I think the therapies we offer are at there best, when we have an opportunity to walk with someone during that "dark" period in there life , where we can become the light bearer , the hope, the hand to guide another through their experience and maybe even get to see them , pass through to a better place, isn't that something to behold.

I was thinking the other day, I'd love lots of money ,but in truth , I love what I do more than the money , I'd still do what I do above the riches or anything else , although if the Divinity is reading this, it would be nice to have an easier path sometimes though wouldn't it ? :)

I have been shaped by my past the same as everyone and I carry wounds and scars from that past and yet ,its given me such insight, built into the fabric of my being, tenacity unmatched and a deep love for people that's never really wavered as the more I witnessed pain, the more it drove me to help change.

I have become the living embodiment of the result of many painful experiences and many joyful ones ,like all of you , we are the sum result of a life full of experiences and no one is any different from another , some may think they are, but the reality is, we are here together and the beauty of life , is we get to share it with each other .

Life is very precious .it is sand itself and passes through our fingertips at such a quick rate , we are at such a crossroads in our evolution and so step forward and make a difference and if you are young and are looking to train as a therapist , hold fast your vison and pick up where we (old ones) leave off.

Ps, I'm still here by the way :)

Here to chat, to guide, to empower you on your journey through illness, anxiety , depression, all those wonderful human emotional responses we have as with all the therapist at Birmingham Holistic, we can help

Take a look at what we offer , sound's a bit naff "offer" but how else do we say it ?

Yours sincerely
